Memorial Services for Lillian Joyce Humphries, 85, will be 6pm Thursday, July 7th at Gray Brown-Service with the Rev’s David Allison and Bill Prestridge. The family will receive friends at from 4-6pm at the funeral home. Mrs. Humphries passed away Tuesday at her home.
She is predeceased in death by her son, Jay Humphries; parents John Morris Carter and mother Willie Campbell Carter; brother John Carter; and sister Frances Carter Swatek.
Mrs. Humphries is survived by her son John Humphries; daughter Jan Martin; and son in law David Martin.
Joyce worked for many years in the restaurant field at The Holiday Inn, Morrison’s Cafeteria and the Cracker Barrel. She was famous for her smile and friendly ways. She never met a stranger and was always a joy to be around.
She was born in Selma, Alabama but resided in Calhoun and Talladega County for the last 50 years. She loved the mountains. She was a member of 1st United Methodist Church in Oxford. She always loved to help in the church and for years she did the weekly attendance pads and delivered meals on wheels. When no longer able to attend, she enjoyed the fellowship of the church visitation team.
