Larry Franklin Hopkins

Weaver – Memorial services for Mr. Larry Hopkins, 74 of Weaver will be held Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 1 p.m. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour before service.

Larry had been fighting lung cancer for the past 8 years and passed at his home on Sunday, January 24, 2016 surrounded by loved ones.

Mr. Hopkins is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Ann Hopkins; son, Randall “Randy” Hopkins; granddaughter, Aimee Hopkins; sister, Robbie Smelley; and many special nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hopkins is preceded in death by his son, Greg Hopkins; sister, Patricia Rollins; brother, Ron Hopkins; and parents, Oliver and Gertrude Hopkins.

Larry was of the Baptist faith, a licensed Amateur Extra Ham Radio Operator, a highly skilled sheet metal craftsman, and a self-taught electronics hobbyist. He loved fishing, building and working on computers, and doing anything well, but most importantly, he was a loving, hardworking, devoted family man, and cherished time with his family above all else, always putting his family’s needs above his own. A man of strong character and gentle kindness, he touched many lives and made the world a better place.

In lieu of flowers family request that donations be made in his name to the American Cancer Society.
