Joseph Ralph Powell

Funeral service for Joseph Ralph Powell, 79, of Anniston, will be 2pm, Saturday, December 12th, 2015 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Revs. Perry Sims and Milton Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2pm Saturday at Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mr. Powell passed away Monday at RMC.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Nydia Powell; daughters Ladonna Kay Murphee (Sammy) and Shelia Rene Everhart; son, Ralph Michael Powell; grandchildren, Lori Alligood (Charlie), Jared Cunningham, Leslie Surrett, Frankie Everhart, and Cory, Andrew, Emma, and Lily Powell; great-grandchildren Chloie and Braden Alligood and Echols Powell; brother, Elisha Thomas Powell III (Barbera); nephews, Elisha Thomas Powell IV and Benjamin Powell; niece, Elizabeth Turbergen and ex-wife, Sadie Elizabeth Roemeling.

Mr. Powell is preceded in death by his parents, Elisha Thomas Powell II and Emma Powell.

Pallbearers will be Jared Cunningham, Andrew Powell, Terry Scruggs Jr, David Nosrat, John Jones, Timothy, Benjamin, and Buster Lowery, and Tony Drummond. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Bible Class of Hillcrest.

Mr. Powell was a native of Anniston, and a dedicated member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for 18 years. In his younger days he loved to quail hunt and fish. He loved antique cars, tractors, and gardening. He loved country music and as he got older he attended senior dances with his wife, Nydia. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he will greatly be missed.
