Reverend J.B. Wells passed away October 21, 2020 at the age of 79. He was a resident of Ohatchee and a member of Southside Baptist Church, Southside Alabama. Rev. Jerry Starling and Rev. Bob Thornton officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 am and go until the start of the funeral service. Funeral services will be at Southside Baptist Church at 11 am, on Saturday, October 24, 2020. Burial following at Middleton Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Sandra Richey Wells; one daughter, Jan Wells of Anniston, AL; one son, Stacy Wells and wife Wendy Wells of Bolivar, MO; one granddaughter, Sierra Wells of Springfield, MO; one grandson, Tanner Wells of Bolivar, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Reverend Wells was proceeded in death by his parents, Jess and Nora Wells of Fort Worth, TX; two brothers, Buster and Doyel Wells; one sister, Luciel Quinn; and a grandson, Dakota Wells. His in-laws, R.L. and Edna Richey of Ohatchee, also proceeded him in death.

J.B. met the love of his life when he was stationed at Fort McClellan, AL in the late 50’s. After his discharge, he worked for several years in the grocery business. In 1969, he answered God’s call to the gospel ministry while a member of Weaver First Baptist Church. His first pastorate was Hebron Baptist Church in Calhoun County. He later served pastorates in Abbeville, AL; Century and Crestview, FL; Hatton and Muscle Shoals, AL; and Louis Street Baptist Church in East Gadsden. He served two and a half years as Director of Missions in Muscle Shoals Association in Moulton, AL. He attended Gadsden State Community College and was a graduate of Baptist Bible Institute (now Baptist College of Florida), graduating in 1975.
He was an avid Alabama football fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. While pastoring in Hatton, AL he served as chaplain of the Hatton football team and coached the JV team for two years. In recent years, he enjoyed watching the Ohatchee Indians play.
