James Almon Morris, known lovingly as Sonny, passed away on September 11, 2024, at the age of 75. Born on January 2, 1949, Sonny was the cherished son of Dorothy Christine Morris and John C. Morris Sr.
Sonny's life was defined by his deep commitment to his country and his family. He served honorably in the United States Army for 3 1/2 years during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Sonny dedicated 44 years of his life to working at Anniston Army Depot, where he was a valued government employee.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Roswitha Opitz Morris, with whom he shared 40 wonderful years of marriage. Sonny is also survived by his two sons: James Quintin Morris and his wife, Toleia Rebecca Morris, and Steven Dewayne Morris and his wife, Savanah Callie Morris. His legacy continues through his five beloved grandchildren: Evangeline Neil Morris, Jarrett Gage Wilkerson, Chloe Allison Morris, Austyn Kate Morris, and Brittyn Lashay Morris.
Sonny was a man of many passions. He found joy in playing with his grandkids, fishing, and cracking jokes that would light up a room. His leadership and integrity were evident in his daily life, as he led by example even when no one was watching.
Sonny's life was a true testament to his values: Soldier and a warrior. Serving the country that he loved. Forty years and more, the true definition of tough. Went home to his family and his Lord, This Soldier the Warrior, He will never have to fight no more.
His family and friends will remember him with great affection and respect. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, Sonny's spirit and the impact he made on those around him will remain in their hearts forever. In this time of sorrow, we take solace in knowing that Sonny is at peace, surrounded by love, and forever cherished in our memories.
