Funeral services for James Roy "Jimmy" Borders Jr., 80, of Anniston will be 2 pm Friday, May 19, 2023 at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Pastor Michael Cox officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1 - 2 pm at the funeral home. Mr. Borders passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City.
Survivors include two sisters, Linda Blume (James) and Shirley Pettus, one brother, Charles (Tommy) Borders.
Mr. Borders is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Borders Harris, father, James Roy Borders Sr., sister, Jane Driskell and brother-in-law, Eddie Pettus.
James "Jimmy" Borders Jr., was born to James Roy Borders Sr., and Lucille Champion Borders on November 9, 1942. He went to Oxford High School then he joined the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served 6 years. After the Navy he had various jobs settling on Merchant Seaman with the Navy Military Sealift Command retiring in 1998. After retiring Jimmy loved going to Cornerstone Church and he loved his church family. He also loved to fish and WATCH TV and listen to all genres of music. Jimmy will be greatly missed as a loving son and brother and his honesty and fairness to all. A heartfelt thanks to the staff, nurses and aids at the Col. Robert L Howard Veterans Home and anyone at the nursing home that showed Jimmy any love or kindness during his stay. Thanks to Lakeside Hospice, Nurse Crystal for their support and kindness.
