Memorial services for George H. Deyo, 87, of Anniston will be 2 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 at Grace Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. Lee F. Shafer officiating. Mr. Deyo passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. Family members include his wife of 65 years, Barry Deyo, four children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
George was a native of Anniston, his great great grandfather, General Daniel Tyler, cofounded Anniston in 1872. His high school years were at the Lawrenceville school in New Jersey, where he prepared for Princeton, his father’s alma mater. George graduated from Princeton with a degree in Architecture, he received a commission in the Army, married the beautiful Anne Barrington Lupton, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George was a trustee and treasurer for Stringfellow Hospital. A Director and membership chairman of the Chamber of Commerce. Vice President of the Choccolocco Council Boy Scouts of America. President of the Anniston Association of Life Underwriters. Member of the Vestry at Grace Episcopal Church, teacher of adult classes and layreader. Member of the Calhoun County Republican Executive Committee. Elected to the first Anniston City Council as Vice-Mayor. George was an agent for New York Life Insurance Company since 1964. He was still at work daily serving his many clients. But he was proudest of all in his loving family and he believed that this community has a proud past and great future.
