Mr. Lawrence was born in Anniston but raised mostly in Mobile.
He graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy and served in the United States Air Force throughout Europe during the Korean War era.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Mr. Lawrence earned his B.S. Degree from Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now known as Auburn University), where he also served as President of the Gamma Sigma Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
After graduating from API, Mr. Lawrence practiced as a Certified Public Accountant for several years in Mobile before returning to Anniston and eventually becoming President of both McCall & Company Insurance, Co. and Anniston Land Company, Inc. until he retired.
Mr. Lawrence served in various civil and social leadership capacities during his career, including as President of Anniston Country Club.
Mr. Lawrence was an avid Auburn University sports and Atlanta Braves fan, played tennis multiple times a week for decades, concocted a family famous Bloody Mary mix, and, primarily later in life, played duplicate bridge — a pastime to which he was passionately devoted and for which the American Contract Bridge Association ranked him a Gold Life Master.
Fred is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Lawrence Nunnelley (William); his son Michael Frederick Lawrence (Renea); and his son William McCall Lawrence (Karen); his brother Ralph W. Lawrence; his grandchild Michael Frederick Lawrence Jr.; his grandchild Lindsey Elizabeth Lawrence; his grandchild Kyle Lee Wise; his grandchild William David Nunnelley Jr.; his grandchild Cameron McCall Lawrence; his grandchild Meghan Alyssa Lawrence and his great grandchild Aiden Thomas Nunnelley.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Alice McCall Lawrence; his parents Fred and Elsie Lawrence.
The family will have a private graveside service. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Bridge Club of Anniston c/o Dr. William Wall, 3045 Woodbridge Drive, Anniston, AL 36207.
