Ohatchee – A homecoming celebration for David K. Dunaway will be Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Matthews officiating with burial to follow at Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Dunaway will lie in state from 12 noon till service time at the church.
Mr. Dunaway, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Dunaway is survived by his daughters, Joan Dunaway Rodiles (Tommy) , Patricia D. Northcutt (Bill) and Holly Dunaway Brown (Kenny) ; sons, David K. Dunaway Jr., (Neresa) Keith Dunaway (Pansy) Jerry Dunaway, Chuck Dunaway (Terri) son-in-law Kevin Bridges and daughter-in-law Rene Dunaway; twenty-five grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bobbie Smith and Sarah Della Cruz; brother, Wayne Dunaway.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Mr. Dunaway was a native of and lifelong resident of Alabama where he attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Army Reserve with a total of 25 years of service. Mr. Dunaway also served as a rural mail carrier in the Ohatchee Community for 22 years.
Mr. Dunaway is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dunaway; daughter, Melissa Bridges; sons, Gary Dunaway and Terry Dunaway; granddaughters, Martha Dunaway and Davan Kiker.
He wore many hats; son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His most enjoyable title was being “Paw Paw”.
A special thanks to Dr. Tamara McIntosh, Dr. Dupree and staff, Lakeside Hospice, and love and gratitude to his granddaughter Echo “baby” Dunaway, who unselfishly and lovingly cared for her Pop for six and a half years.
