Charles Hess is survived by {wife} Mary Hess.{children}, Vickie Kilgore (Jeff); Brian Hess (Toni), (Grandchildren) Kyle Kilgore (Amber), Brett Kilgore (Kristin) Christian, Cali and Charlee Hess. (Great Grandchildren) Lathan and Mary Elsie Kilgore.{siblings}, Ada Nolen, Doris Jo Prickett (Joel), JD Hess (Debbie). He is preceded in death by {Mother} Oris Hess Beamer (Father) Manley H. Hess, (Brother) Manley Eugene Hess, (Sister) Mary Ann Haynie (Brother in Laws) Dr. Doyce Nolen and Jerry Haynie.
Charles Hess was born on October 3, 1939 in Anniston Alabama to Manley and Oris Hess. Charles was happily married to Mary Hess for 64 years. He worked at the Anniston Star composing newspapers and working equipment and technology for 40+ years. He was an original member of the Harmoneer Quartet, which is a southern gospel singing group that traveled throughout Alabama and Georgia in 1970 and 1980’s. He served for almost 50 years as a music minister at several churches in the local area.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember Him (Papaw) as a kind, gentle, patient, loving father and grandfather who was a Christian example of how to serve our Lord.
Charles was passionate about his Faith, his family, Alexandria softball, Alabama athletics, antiques and especially his wife Mary who was by his side for almost 65 years.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Hess to The First Baptist Church of Saks, 4723 Saks Rd, Anniston, AL 36206.
The funeral is scheduled for Wednesday April 26th, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Saks, Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 with funeral to follow at 2:00. Gray Brown Funeral Home is in charge. Dr. Todd Stewart and Pastor Phil Winningham will officiate the ceremony. Pallbearers are Jeff Kilgore, Kyle Kilgore, Brett Kilgore, Jim Brown, Mark Brown, and Derek Cobb. Honorary Pallbearers are current and former players of the Alexandria High School Softball Team. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Charles Aaron Hess.
