March 13, 2021, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary with the Rev. Dewayne New
officiating. Burial will follow at Anniston Memorial Gardens. The family will
receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. McDowell
passed away Sunday morning surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Weaver, Alabama on August 8, 1925 and was a resident of
Calhoun County most of his life.
Survivors include his children, Jan Brim (Jack) of Weaver, AL;
Harold Bryant of Apopka, FL; Daughter In-Law, Linda Bryant of Birmingham,
AL; grandchildren, Kent Bryant (Kara) of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Marcus Bryant of
Apopka, FL; Jennifer Brim Craig (Stephen) of Jacksonville, AL and Julia Brim
Parris (Tyler) of Daphne, AL; great-grandchildren, Kinley and Kayla Bryant,
Ella and Emma Craig, and Evelyn Parris; several nieces and nephews.
Mr.McDowell was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary Evelyn
McDowell; son, Donald Bryant; parents, Roy and Irene McDowell; siblings,
Horace McDowell, Roy McDowell, Clarence McDowell, JC McDowell, and
Betty Jo McDowell.
Mr. McDowell was an active member of First Baptist Church of Weaver for 45 years.
He served 10 years in the US Navy and retired from the State of Alabama ABC Board.
Mr. McDowell loved his family,nature, gardening, cutting grass, and working in his yard.
He was well known throughout Calhoun County for building bluebird houses and conducting
workshops at Anniston Museum of Natural History, local schools, 4H Clubs,
Boy Scouts, and garden clubs. Special thanks to the staff and caregivers at
Legacy Village of Jacksonville for their love and care given to "Mr. Calvin" over
the past two years. Also, special thanks to Ken and Joyce Lanterman for their
faithful weekly visits for many years. In accordance with the state-mandated
health order, guests to the visitation and services are kindly asked to wear
masks and maintain social distancing.
