Bobbie Jean Gibson, age 90, of Saks, AL, passed away March 19, 2024. She was born November 22, 1933, in Sylvania, AL, to William and Essie Adams. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Gibson; son, Frank Jeffrey Gibson; parents, William and Essie Adams; brothers, Coy, Albert, and Donald Adams; and sisters, Willodeen (Sis) Burke, Annie (Doots) Hall, Ardell (Dell) Burton, Mary Ruth Akstin, Frances Wydene Thacker, and Maverine Crowell.
Bobbie grew up on Sand Mountain as part of a large family and she never forgot the love and her blessing even though times were often meager. She met and married Frank and was a proud, loving, and supporting Army wife as they dealt with the unique challenges that life brings, to include Frank’s deployment to Korea during the war there. Though Frank decided to retire instead of accepting a promotion to Sergeant Major, Bobbie always said she would have been a fantastic Sergeant Major’s wife!
Bobbie believed the Lord used her through her cooking and baking – and many were believers. Not only making tasty meals and treats at home and always having room for a visitor, she managed to do the same at the Saks Elementary School Cafeteria where she was the manager until retiring. The school lunches were very popular with the students, teachers, and staff, and even visiting school system employees coming just for the chance at lunch. She was a member at Gladeview Baptist Church and regularly brought her talents and energy to church functions. Famous for her cinnamon rolls and chocolate cake and still baking while late in her 80s, she would often make her chocolate cake for her doctors who loved her even without the promise of those sweet morsels. Right up to her last days, she was a vibrant part of her circle of family and friends - daily making phone calls to chat or share others’ prayer needs.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia Lynn Laney of Rainsville, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Steve Moore; grandson Jonathon (Jon) Moore and his wife Mandi, and grandson Matthew Moore, all of Huntsville, AL; daughter-in-law, Tawanna Vaughn Gibson, grandson, David Gibson, granddaughter, Dixie Gibson, all of Muscadine, AL.
Funeral services will be held March 24, 2024, 2:00PM CST at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home Chapel; visitation will be from noon to 2:00 pm also at the Chapel Hill Chapel. Interment without any formal services will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
