Bill Coyner, of Prince George St, Annapolis, Md, died, on March 14th, 2023, at 9:30 PM surrounded by his family at the Anne Arundel Medical Center in the Care of Hospice, of complications from recently diagnosed stage 4 Lung Cancer
Bill was Born on August 18th, 1941, in Ogdensburg, NY to Nancy (nee Werntz) and Crawford Coyner. Bill was privileged to live in many locations as his father pursued his Army career during WWII and after. He with his mother and sister were on the first military dependents ship to live in Germany following the war. They subsequently lived in Georgia, Germany again, Parkland and Seattle Washington, Westminster, MD, moving finally with his parents to the family home in Annapolis, MD. His work life included a wide variety of jobs that included Annapolis Atlas Van Lines, Gomoljak Block, ¬¬¬¬¬¬Charlie Pastrana (where he was known as Willy), American Window Company (now Thompsons Creek), Shoppers Food Warehouse, and lastly at McDonald’s. He was universally regarded for his positive work ethic and affability. His lifelong love of music and reading consumed much of his free time and resulted in a major collection of jazz and rock and roll records – since replaced with a similar collection of CDs. He collected an extensive library of books about Jazz, and about the American West.
For many years Bill was a fixture of downtown Annapolis where he walked nearly every day, stopping at his favorite sites, and frequently taking the bus to visit the mall or his favorite barber. Though many did not know much about Bill, he was always treated fairly and watched over by many. His family would occasionally get a call that a caring person had seen Bill at the Mall or “Shoppers” just to ensure to ensure we knew, and Bill was safe. We are forever grateful for the caring of many Annapolitans.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his sister Nancy Farmer and brother-in-law Mike Farmer of Annapolis, their son Wayne of Alexandria, VA, Wayne’s, daughter Susanna (Sukie) of Honolulu HI, and his son Rilo also of Alexandria, VA.
Bill’s cremains will be buried at the St. Anne’s Cedar Bluff Cemetery near his parents and Werntz family ancestors in a private remembrance later in the Spring.
