My sincere condolences to the Busch family. I did not know Speaker Busch, but I knew of him, being one of the few proud Democrats from Anne Arundel County. We moved here just as Speaker Busch was beginning his first term in office. After all these years, thank you, Speaker Busch, for making me feel safe. Safe in the fact that Maryland takes care of its citizens, its school, its environment. Speaker Busch was the leader who made it happen. His shoes are going to be very hard to fill.

Thank you, Sir, and thank you, Busch family, for your service to us all!

I had the privilege of working with Mike when he was a delegate in the legislature thirty years ago.  His first act as Chairman of the Anne Arundel County Delegation was to eulogize Delegate Aris T. Allen, who died that day, on the floor of the House.  Through his actions, Mike taught me how to meet challenges with grace, dignity and compassion.   

Later in my career, I would see Mike with his daughters at legislative events.  I still recall running into Mike, with Erin on his shoulders at an NCSL meeting, and both of them were singing "Take me out to the Ballgame."  Such love and joy!  And Cindy, I remember the day that Mike met you:  he was a man transformed.  You were the light and love of his life.

My thoughts are with all of you, with deepest sympathy.  We have lost a man who was great in every measure.

On behalf of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, Canada, I want to pass on our condolences to the family of Speaker Michael Busch.

Our thoughts and prayers are being extended to his family during this difficult time.



Mr.  Busch was nice and honest toward me of the few times we talked to each other.  He cared when he spoke and I have nothing but good things to say about him. The Nelson family gives our sincere condolences to the Busch and Bernhardt families.

I've known Mike since we were in the 5th. grade together at Holy Trinity School. We didn't connect again till I worked for the Department of Natural Resources particularly, when I worked in Program Open Space, of which he was a great supporter in the Maryland Legislature. I just want to extend my sympathies to Cindy and the rest of his family. Rest in Peace Mr. Speaker.

Mike was a member of the Annapolis Racquetball Club's traveling team which I played for and managed.  I could always seek Mike's advice on strategies for our team to win our matches.  He was a great man and one I was honored to meet and compete in sports with.

I was saddened to learn of Mike’s passing and want to extend my thoughts and prayers to his family. I enjoyed working with Mike in the Legisture  over the years and know that Maryland is a better place because of Mike  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him

I was fortunate to meet Mike at my work these last couple years. He is very much the family man. He would go on about his girls, family life and how he was looking forward to his future years with fun times. You are blessed to have had such a gentle soul.

I first met Speaker Busch at a beautiful home in West Annapolis on the 30A House Delegate primary campaign circuit in Feb. 2018.  His presence in the room just made everyone feel at ease, especially our newly formed campaign team for Alice Cain.  That day, he congratulated everyone as if we had won by being involved.  He always gave Marylanders confidence that our state will remain one the best as long as we believed in the good each of us could bring to public service.  I, myself have been a public servant for over 30 years now and I am very proud to have been a part of his excellent team.  Thank you Speaker Busch for always encouraging people to stay involved in their community!  You will be missed and already are!

I first met Mike Busch in fall of 1986, during his last months of campaigning successfully for the Annapolis seat in the General Assembly. We both worked out at the Merritt Athletic Club in Annapolis and, sitting together at the juice bar one afternoon, I (always the pretentious little jerk) proceeded to offer unsolicited advice on how to succeed in the General Assembly--in the first few years don't make much noise, third year co-sponsor bills and speak up, fourth year feel free to shine. 

Mike remembered all that, and told my parents (jokingly), years later when he met them, that I had helped him in making his legislative career successful. The man was just the best, and my wife, Deborah, and I loved him and will never forget him.
