Shirley F. Kirby a resident of Annapolis, Maryland since 1961. Born April 20, 1928 in Pennsylvania to the late Harry and Elmira Fisher. In 1955 she founded the Washington, D.C. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She joined the Philadelphia group and became a member of the National Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She was appointed Executive Director by the Board of Trustees. Through the local efforts a clinic was established at Childrens Hospital and research was started at the National Institute of Health. She moved to Annapolis in 1961 and in 1968 she was employed by the Maryland Historical Trust as Deputy Director until her retirement in 1980. Her husband William S. Kirby predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by her children Carol Kulasik and her husband Jerry, William Langtry and his wife Alex, Jill Taylor and her husband Harry. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she served on various committees. She was one of the founders of the Annapolis Opera where she served as an officer and she was also instrumental in the formation of the Annapolis Symphony. For many years she studied voice and was a professional singer, performing in Opera, Broadway type productions, and churches in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. area. Her many interests include traveling both in the United States and Europe, sailing, oil and watercolor painting, gardening and classical music. Funeral Services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church 1300 West Street Annapolis, Maryland 21401 on Thursday at 11 AM. The family will receive friends at church prior to Funeral Services from 9:30 am to 11:00 AM. A private burial will take place in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.
