Colonel Robert Bruce, US Army (Ret.), age 77, of Annapolis, MD, passed away suddenly on Friday, April 6, 2018. He was born on Dec. 18, 1940, son of Ethel Anne and William John Bruce and raised in Hollywood, CA. Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Donna, children Lindy Hood (Mike), Julie Carbaugh (Brian), and Bob Bruce (Cindy), ten grandchildren, and his sister Janet.
Bob graduated from the US Military Academy, West Point, in 1963. He met his beloved wife of 53 years, Donna Speier, while a cadet. Bob and Donna were lucky to have found each other early in life and to have shared so many experiences and memories.
A field artillery officer, he served with artillery units in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. One of his fondest memories in uniform was the 117 parachute jumps he amassed as a Master and Military Freefall qualified parachutist. Following his retirement from the Army, Bob continued to serve as a Senior Executive in the Department of Defense in the Office of International Programs.
In retirement, when he wasn’t traveling the world with Donna, Bob could be seen stand up paddle boarding in the Chesapeake Bay. He especially loved spending time with his family, and also enjoyed woodworking and adding to his collection of German beer steins. He was deeply loved and is deeply missed.
Interment at Arlington National Cemetery (date to be determined).
