Richard Wilbur “Dick” Walker, 90, of Harwood, Maryland, passed away on October 8, 2023, after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert O. Walker and Mary Mildred Donaldson Walker. He was a loving father survived by his daughter Sheri Lee Walker Wright and son-in-law Brian C. Wright of Windsor, PA, younger brother Albert A. Walker of King George, VA, beloved girlfriend Marian L. Badger of Glen Burnie, MD, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Richard was a life-long resident of Anne Arundel County, born March 29, 1933, in Sudley, MD. After graduating from Arundel High School in 1951, he began his lifelong career as a Land Surveyor opening his own company Richard W. Walker and Associates, Inc. in 1985.
Richard was a highly respected Professional Land Surveyor licensed to practice in Maryland and Delaware. He was very active in the Maryland Society of Surveyors (MSS). He received the MSS Russell E. Lowman Award for his commitment to education in his field and the MSS Lifetime Achievement Award for dedication to training, education and ethics in the profession.
Richard was proud to have served his country in the Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 304 in Annapolis where he served as Quartermaster at the time of his death. Richard was also an active member of the Cummings-Behlke American Legion Post 226 in Edgewater.
Richard was a life-long member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 622 in Annapolis where he served as a Trustee for 38 years and was named Elk Officer of the Year in 2022 by the Annapolis Lodge.
Richard enjoyed collecting antique cars, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered by his family for his generosity of spirit, quick wit, good sense of fun and love of animals.
A visitation for Richard will be held Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 9 AM in Saint Mary Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21409. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
