Richard “Dick” Pearson Inman, 86, of BayWoods of Annapolis passed away peacefully Sunday December 13, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Montello, Wisconsin, he was the son of Dr. Richard F. Inman and Lois Oesterreich Inman. Dick graduated from the US Naval Academy with the Class of 1951. He served on the USS Northampton in the Atlantic and commanded the USS Fechteler in the Pacific. He taught at the US Naval Academy from 1964 to 1969 and was the Director of the USNA Computing Center. He retired from the US Navy in 1971 as the first Director of the US Naval Cryptologic Department in Washington, DC. Dick then started a second career with the Westinghouse, managing various programs associated with civilian nuclear instrumentation and military air defense systems for Nordic and South American allies. He retired from Westinghouse in 1994. In 1979, Dick and his wife, Barbara, founded the Maryland Coffee Company and were proprietors of The Gourmet’s Cup, a gourmet coffee boutique in West Annapolis. Dick was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board, the Board of Trustees, the Council of Ministries, and the Methodist Men. He was Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troup 396 and local District Chairman. In 1987, he received the Silver Beaver Award given to Scout leaders who have made an outstanding contribution through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. Dick and Barbara shared a love of gardening and were both Master Gardeners. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Womble Inman, originally of Durham North Carolina; by his daughter Barbee Inman Whitaker and her husband William Bundren, by his son, CDR Richard F. Inman (ret) and his wife COL Gail G. Inman; and by seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Inman Mallow of Watertown, Wisconsin. Friends are invited to celebrate Dick’s life from 5 to 8 pm on Monday 21 December at the Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday 22 December at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1300 West Street, Annapolis, followed by a private interment at the US Naval Academy.
