Richard I. Hochman, M.D., age 89, of Annapolis, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018 of natural causes. Dr. Hochman was a prominent physician in Annapolis and a veteran of the United States Navy. He was born April 18, 1928 in New York City and was the son of Dr. Louis and Estelle Hochman. He received his B.A. from Lafayette College and his Doctor of Medicine degree at New York University. He served honorably as a Destroyer Division Physician in the United States Navy during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Lt. Commander before settling his family in Annapolis in 1960. Dr. Hochman was Board Certified in Internal Medicine. He maintained a thriving private medical practice in Annapolis and served as Chief of Medicine at the Anne Arundel Medical Center, as well as President of the Medical Staff and a Member of the Board of Directors. He served as Medical Director of Fairfield Nursing Home and the Annapolis Convalescent Center, and held numerous other posts of medical authority with local businesses and government throughout his long and distinguished career. Dr. Hochman was a talented jazz pianist, with New Orleans Dixieland Jazz being his musical genre of choice. In the 60's, 70's and 80's he led a Dixieland band comprised of local doctors and lawyers called the Bars & Tonics, entertaining the crowds at many festivals formerly held at the City Dock. He later led a group of professional musicians in what would become known as Dr. Rick Hochman's Dynamic Dixieland Band, playing several local venues. He was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, a long time member of the Annapolitan Club, serving four terms as its President and also was a Coordinator of the Annapolis Chapter of MENSA. A dedicated family man, Dr. Hochman is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan, his daughters Nancy, Melissa and Elizabeth (Craig), his son Michael, his grandchildren Jordan, Kailey, Alexander, Nicholas, Molly, Austin, Brian and Justin, three great-grandchildren and finally his brother, Dr. Robert Hochman. He is predeceased by his son, Peter. A Visitation with family for friends, colleagues and mourners will be held on Thursday, April 19th at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis MD 21401 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A private interment will follow the next day. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice.
