Margaret Eleanor Floyd Conlyn Overton, lovingly called Peg, Peggy, P.F. and Peggles, was born in Washington D.C. on July 9, 1946 to Mariana Rogers Wadleigh Cottman Conlyn and William James Conlyn, Jr. She left this world at 11:07 a.m. on November 7, 2022 with her daughter, Alexandra, by her side. After surviving breast cancer and a seven-year struggle with Alzheimer’s, Peg was taken from us with her last words, “I’m ready, Lon.”
Peggy Conlyn grew up in Sliver Silver, MD, graduating from Montgomery Blair High, class of ’64. She went on to attend James Madison University, VA for a year before transferring to what was called Findley College, where P.F. majored in theater with a double minor in speech and French. Afterwards she became a stewardess for TWA airlines. Peg’s next move was becoming a librarian at the Severna Park Library, and later at the Severn School Library. Her most significant contribution to the Annapolis area community was becoming the first assistant to the Mayor of Annapolis, John Apostle, which was previous called Secretary and only held by men. Peg was also an equality trailblazer when becoming one of the first women Jaycees in Annapolis. She also acted and directed a number of productions in Annapolis, most notably with Colonial Players. She made lifelong friends wherever she went.
While working as a Kelly Girl she met the love of her life, Lonnie Okia Overton, marrying him December 30, 1977 and becoming a step mother to three sons. During this time Peg began working for the Domestic Relations Division of the Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. On September 22, 1982 she took on what she characterized as her most challenging role, mother of a daughter.
Peg’s devotion to her faith and the Episcopal Church became a part of her career path when she started working for St. Anne’s Church. In her later years Peg became a founding member of the American Association of Daily Money Managers, establishing her own bookkeeping business for seniors, Senior Accounts. She was also a member of the Society of Companions of the Holy Cross, the Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution. Peg was an avid knitter, creating blankets, scarves, throws for family and friends.
Peg was preceded by her parents, stepsons Craig and Scott, and most recently by her husband Lon. She is survived by her sister Susan Daly and her children Robin, Elaine, Chris, and Cathie, their spouses and children, her brother William J. Conlyn, III and his wife Cathy and their son Zach, her stepson Stuart and wife Gail, daughter Alexandra Gallamore and her husband Josh, grandson Walker Okia Gallamore, and dear nephew Michael Overton and goddaughter Emily.
A special thanks to the staff at Jones Acres Assisted Living for taking such wonderful care of Peg. Services will be held on March 18, 2023 at 11 am at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Road, Annapolis, MD 21409. Please follow the John M. Taylor Funeral Home website for updates.
