December 5, 1928 – September 18, 2022
Annapolis, Maryland – Peggy Long went to be with the Lord quietly on Sunday September 18, 2022. She shared often with family, friends and facility staffers that she was ready to be at peace in God’s hands.
Born Margaret Gildersleeve Pratt at the Hackensack Hospital in New Jersey. Peggy attended Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia, lived in a bungalow across the street from the college with seven girls and her bunk was in the kitchen. She was married twice and she lived in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Florida and Maryland. Her most loved place was “Pratt Haven” Isle La Motte which is a family property in Vermont established by her grandfather Benjamin G. Pratt Sr. in 1925. She said her favorite dessert was lemon sherbet ILM style. This meant preparing the fresh ingredients and then watching the sherbet maker using ice and rock salt grinding until it slowed to the finish.
During the 1980’s Peggy obtained her real estate license. She sold homes for many years and retired as the real estate project manager for a major condominium complex in the Baltimore Harbor area.
Peggy’s faith was a significant part of her life. Her initial church was the 2nd Reformed Church in Hackensack where; she was baptized, first married and her first two children were baptized and married. She recalled her father telling her and her sisters Bible stories when they were young and she prayed on her knees at bedtime. She received attendance pins for Sunday School attendance, 13 years straight and as a teenager taught first and second grade Sunday School. Her favorite Bible verse was the 23rd Psalm.
Peggy loved to read, her favorite book was “Gone with the Wind” and her favorite author was Rosamunde Pilcher. Her other hobbies through the years included tennis, making pinecone wreaths, playing bridge, jigsaw puzzles, enjoying music (especially piano), golf and being with family and friends. She hand wrote a “Reflection from a Mother’s Heart” book for each of her four children that included pictures, her life’s memories and favorite stories about each of them. A fond memory of her youth that she mentioned was baby chicks swimming in the bathtub at the family farm in West Virginia.
Peggy said her family was the most important thing in her life and she is survived by her sister Polly Schwenker, her children; Diane Daniels, Steve (wife Anita) Leonard, Jack (wife Heather) Leonard, Ken (wife Melonee) Leonard, her grandchildren; Stephanie Krause, Matt Krause, Chris Leonard, Jessica Leonard, Brett (wife Catherine) Leonard, Drew (wife Laura) Leonard, Maddie Leonard (husband Jon) Cave, Abby Leonard, Brooke Leonard and her great grandchildren; Colin Beattie, Paige Leonard, Juliet Leonard, Troy Leonard, Greta Leonard, Aubrey Leonard, Reese Leonard and a niece and six nephews plus all of their families.
