Kathleen M. Hansen

Kathleen (Kate) Mary Hansen, long-time resident of Annapolis, died on September 26, 2014, at Anne Arundel Medical Center following a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 69.

Kate was born on January 18, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph and Eileen Algina. She married the late Daniel J. Hansen, III in 1965, and together they raised three surviving children: Daniel J. Hansen, IV and his wife, Hilary Hansen, of Atlanta, Georgia; Elizabeth J. Hansen of Annapolis; and Margaret Harris and her husband, Rodney Harris, of Arnold, Maryland. Kate is also survived by her brother, James J. Algina of Gainesville, Florida, and sister, Patricia M. Algina of Arnold. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorrie M. Algina, and brother, John Algina. Kate is survived by a nephew, David Algina, and four nieces: Leah Algina, Jessica Wisner, Erin Woods, and Alexandra Wehling. She was adored by her four grandchildren: Riley Hansen, Clare Harris, Rory Hansen, and Hugh Harris.

Kate attended Seton Hill College and received a paralegal degree from the University of Maryland. She was a paralegal in the Law Offices of Stacie J. Wollman in Annapolis for more than 20 years. Kate travelled extensively, often with her late dear friend, Vicky Waidner. They enjoyed traveling throughout Europe, Africa, and South America, but most of all sailing off the coast of Maine every summer. An additional highlight of her travels was hiking Machu Picchu. Kate enjoyed making jewelry as well as attending plays, ballet, opera, and other performing arts.

Visitation is scheduled for Monday, September 29 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, Inc. 147 Duke of Gloucester St, Annapolis, MD 21401. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 30 at 10:30 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church 1601 Pleasant Plains Rd, Annapolis, MD 21409. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts or to the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
