Joseph Robert Buckley

Joseph Robert Buckley, 75, passed away on March 25, 2022 at his home in Annapolis, Md. Joe was born on September 28, 1947 in Philadelphia, Pa and graduated from LaSalle University in Philadelphia with a BA in History. He married Susan Fitzgerald on July 25, 1970. Joe got a Masters Degree in City and Regional Planning from LaSalle in 1972. He held various management positions in his career mainly in real estate acquisition and health care development He worked for McBirney, Buckley and Associates in Philadelphia from 1971 to 1975. He then went to Blue Bell Realty Services from 1975 to 1979, becoming President and CEO in 1977. In 1979 he joined Manor Care, Inc. becoming President and CEO in 2000. Joe and Susan moved to Annapolis full time from Potomac, MD in 2000 when Joe retired.

In his retirement Joe served on many corporate boards. He and his wife, Susan as members of Eastport Yacht Club, enjoyed outings on their power boat, Irish Wake and serving as part of Race Committee for EYC’s Santa Maria Cup. In addition, a large amount of their time was spent planning and taking cruises, mostly with SilverSea. Joe visited countless countries, often more than once. He was extremely well informed person and fun to be around. He was predeceased in death by his father, Romanus J. Buckley and mother, Margaret O’Keefe Buckley, both of Philadelphia, Pa., his beloved wife of 46 years Susan, and his sister, Nina Buckley Yeager. He is survived by brother in law, Ralph Yeager of Raleigh, NC.
