John Francis Phillips, known affectionately as Jack, was born on October 7, 1939, in Springfield, Massachusetts to Frank & Dorothy (Hobbs) Phillips. Jack passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at his home in Annapolis, Maryland.
Jack led a fulfilling life marked by his dedication to both his career and loved ones. He attended Agawam High School where he was an avid trumpet player, altar boy, and hockey player. He graduated from Providence College with a Degree in Economics. Jack’s professional journey predominantly unfolded in the realm of aviation working for Rolls Royce (aircraft engines). During this time, together with his family, Jack had the opportunity to live and work in several countries including Iran, the United Kingdom, and France before returning to Aurora, Colorado in the United States where after he retired in Annapolis, Maryland.
Known by many for his baby blue eyes, Jack’s vibrant personality lit up the room and endeared him to many. He was a kind and generous soul, a smart dresser; vast hat collector, and possessed a remarkable sense of humor and knack for storytelling that never failed to brighten the lives of those around him.
Among his many interests and hobbies, Jack loved to travel and experience a huge variety of cultures and local cuisines. He enjoyed to cook, loved downhill skiing, playing golf, watching the Red Sox’s, and of course enjoying a Grey Goose Martini.
Jack’s proudest accomplishments centered around his role as a father to his children Kimberly and Kristie. Embracing the joys of grandparenthood brought him immense happiness and his love for his growing family. Jack had a profound adoration for his grandchildren and spent time with them as often as he could.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Linda Ann Phillips and survived by two daughters, Kimberly Ann Lyons, her husband, Jere Lyons of Far Hills, New Jersey and Kristie Lynn Phillips of Annapolis, Maryland. Five beautiful grandchildren; Samantha, Spencer, Anna and Ava Lyons and Emory John Phillips-Greene, brother Robert Phillips of Sullivan, Maine and his family.
Jack leaves behind a wealth of memories that will forever be treasured by those who had the privilege of knowing him. His warm demeanor, unwavering love for family and friends, coupled with an adventurous spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of sharing in life's journey with him.
May he rest in peace while eternally residing within our hearts filled with gratitude for having shared life’s most precious moments alongside such a remarkable individual like Jack Phillips.
