John J. Moynihan

John Joseph Moynihan was born on June 2, 1936 in Wilmington, Delaware, to Peter J. and Rose Ann Moynihan. He graduated high school from Salesianum School in Wilmington, and followed that with a BA from Villanova University and a master's degree in International Relations from American University. In 1958, he married Ann Durkin of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, and has been happily married to her ever since.

John spent 23 years as a Naval Officer, retiring in 1981 with rank of Commander. Most of his time was spent in naval aviation, serving as a Naval Flight Officer in squadrons flying the Douglas A-3 Skywarrior, and as Flight Deck Officer on the USS Forrestal. After retiring from the Navy, he began his second career in accounting, and spent over twenty years as a Certified Public Accountant with his own firm in Annapolis, MD.

John was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Annapolis. While there, he served as a lay minister, and was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Bethany Bereavement Society and the English as a Second Language staff. He was an avid sailor and golfer, and was a member of the Annapolis Yacht Club, the Naval Academy Golf Club, and the Henry Clay Historical Society of Wilmington, Delaware.

John is survived by his loving wife Ann of Annapolis; sons John Jr. (and wife Joy) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Patrick (and wife Barbara) of Burke, VA; daughter Susan Moynihan of Annapolis, MD; three grandchildren Mitch, Colin and Claire; and his sister Mary Quinn of Wilmington, DE.

Interment is to be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Mary's Parish, located at 109 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis MD 21401.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 11, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Visitation will be held the evening prior from 4 pm to 7 pm at John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401.
