James was born on April 23, 1944, in Brockton, Massachusetts, to James and Leah Higgins. He joined the Army in November of 1968 as a medic in the Vietnam War. During his service, he received a Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Certificate of Achievement. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, where he met his wife, Aurea. In December, they celebrated 55 years of marriage, and together, they settled in New Jersey and had two children, Marilyn and Daren.
After leaving the Army, James worked as a truck driver for EcoLab his entire career. He loved his three grandchildren, Christopher, Hannah, and Noah, immensely. A member of the Fleet Club in Annapolis, he enjoyed spending time with fellow military members.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, September 7th from 9 – 11 am at John M. Taylor Funeral Home in Annapolis. Followed by a prayer service at 11 am and a light lunch. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations to cancer research.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Aurea Higgins; his brother, Patrick Higgins; and wife, Sharon; daughter, Marilyn Wagner; and her husband, John Wagner Jr.; and his grandson, Noah Wagner. His son Daren Higgins, granddaughter Hannah Nichols and her fiancé Alex Page, and grandson Christopher John, wife Ashley, and great-grandchildren Jack and Sawyer.
