Mr. George Long died peacefully in his home on February 27 in Cape St. Claire, Maryland at the age of 70. George is survived by his beloved friend Judith Snyder of Crofton, his two grown daughters, and his three cats. George was born on February 11, 1945 in Lovington, Illinois to James and Mary Florence Long. He graduated from Milliken University in 1969 before obtaining his master’s degree in chemistry from North Dakota State University. He was married to Kenwyn Engel Long from 1971 until their divorce in 1985. After moving to Maryland in 1975, George began working for the DEA as a forensic chemist. Later, he worked for the Navy testing the flammability of ship components. After retiring, George worked seasonally assisting taxpayers — first for the state and later as a certified tax preparer. Finally, George assisted with water purity analysis for the region as a contractor with the EPA. George’s body will be laid to rest in Illinois near his mother and father. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday March 7 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the River Bay Roadhouse in Cape St. Claire. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life.
