

Eleanor Pike Sturgis passed away on February 14, 2018 at the age of 80. She was born on October 15, 1937 in Annapolis, Maryland to the late Beulah Mae Pike and Horace T. Pike. Eleanor was a 1955 graduate of Annapolis High School and a 1959 graduate of Furman University where she received a BA in Education. She was an Anne Arundel County Public School Teacher for over thirty years and enjoyed volunteering with the Historic Annapolis Foundation. She was a member of College Avenue Baptist Church and Heritage Baptist Church where she served the church as their organist for over 50 years and earned the title of organist emeritus. Eleanor is preceeded in death by her husband John “Jack” William Sturgis, Jr.; brother, James Leonard Crawford and sister Ernestine McCullough. She is survived by her son, John “Bill” William Sturgis, III and his wife Suzanne of Severn; and two grandchildren John Sturgis and Andrea Sturgis.
The family will receive friends at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street Annapolis, MD 21401 on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Funeral Service will be held in Heritage Baptist Church 1740 Forest Drive Annapolis, Maryland 21401 on Monday at 10 am. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Memorials in her name to Heritage Baptist Church will be appreciated.
