Edward Malcolm Wyatt

Edward Malcolm Wyatt, age 85, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Heart Homes in Annapolis from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. Mr. Wyatt was born in Denver, CO on March 18, 1932, to the late Margery Collier and Kenneth Wyatt. He grew up in Richmond, VA and received both undergraduate and graduate degrees in mathematics from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He came to Annapolis in 1958 where he was a beloved and dedicated member of the St. John’s College faculty until his retirement in 2002. At St. John’s he served as Assistant Dean 1984-1988, and was Director of the Graduate Institute 1989-1992. In recognition of his many contributions to the life of the college, the St. John’s College Alumni Association named him an honorary alumnus in 2003. He was an accomplished flute player and spent his last sabbatical studying chamber music in Vienna, Austria. Mr. Wyatt was predeceased by his first wife, Martha Goldstein Wyatt, and is survived by his wife of 25 years, Cecelia Merritt Wyatt. He is also survived by daughter Rachel Wyatt and husband Jonathan Turner of Brooklyn, NY, daughter Ruth Wyatt and husband Andrew Caplin of New York, NY, and son Mark Wyatt and wife Zita Ivacs of Brooklyn, NY. In addition, he is survived by step-daughter Michelle Elvy and husband Bernard Heise of Tanga, Tanzania, step-daughter Medea Elvy and husband Matthew Hackett of Larchmont, NY, and step-son Bee Elvy and wife Alison Childs of Los Angeles, CA. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Isaiah, Natalie, Ann, Olivia, Daniel, Lola, Jana, Gray and Belle, whom he adored. There will be a Memorial Service in McDowell Hall at St. John’s College on Saturday, June 10, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, persons wishing to donate in his memory are asked to mail contributions to the Student Financial Aid Program at St. John’s College, 60 College Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21401.
