Doris P. Wayson

She was the daughter of the late State Senator and former Mayor of Annapolis, Louis N. Phipps and Mae Sherbert Phipps.

She was predeceased by her brother Louis N. Phipps, Jr. who died in 2006 and companion Gilbert A. Crandall who died in 2006 and Paul E. Turner who died in 2012.

Formerly married to Thomas G. Wayson, she is survived by two sons, Thomas G. Wayson, Jr. of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and John C. Wayson of Salisbury, Maryland.

Doris Phipps Wayson was a 1941 graduate of Annapolis High School and later of the University of Maryland. She was a member of Delta, Delta, Delta Sorority. During World War II she headed the blood drive of the University of Maryland for which she was awarded the Victory Medal. She was a life long member of Trinity Methodist Church and she was active in Anne Arundel Medical Center Auxiliary. She had also been active in Severn Town Club and the Pan-Hellenic Club.

For many years, Ms. Wayson was employed by Phipps Buick of Annapolis and served on the staff of the office of the Chief Clerk of the Legislature when until she retired in 1989.

In 1978 she was appointed to the City’s first Commission on Aging by Mayor, John C. Apostol, for which she served as secretary for several years.

The family will receive friends and relatives at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday April 6th, the funeral service will be at 11 AM in the Taylor Chapel. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Lothian, Maryland 1 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Anne Arundel Medical Center.
