Carol was born on June 18, 1953 to Lawrence and Jean Cheek (of Chapel Hill, North Carolina) in San Antonio, Texas while her father served in the Air Force. Carol was the oldest sister to her four brothers, John Cheek (Pam), Michael Cheek (Amy), James Cheek (Debi), and Thomas Cheek (Kathy).
As a young woman, Carol was as a natural athlete excelling in any sport she played. She was a gifted lacrosse attacker for the Towson High School Generals. After school Carol entered the work force as an Administrative Assistant.
During her early working years she met her husband, Joseph Alton III. Together they raised their children, Joseph Alton IV (Emelie), and Aimee Alton Gomberg (Brett). Carol often said raising her family was the happiest days of her life. As devoted and loving of a mother Carol was to Joey and Aimee nothing compared to the joy she found in being a grandmother to her five grandchildren, Hannah Gomberg, Michael Davis Alton, Isaac Alton, Sophia Gomberg, and Joseph Brock Alton. She was incredibly proud of the amazing people her grandchildren were becoming.
The last twenty years Carol worked for the Naval Academy Athletic Association, a job she loved dearly. Carol was a woman of unshakeable faith. She was a deaconess at the Island Alliance Church in Stevensville, Md. There she had an opportunity to serve others. Carol was a talented artist with boundless creativity. She loved to paint, garden, sew, bake, and cross stitch. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Jean Cheek and her former husband, Joseph Alton III.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 21st at 1:00 pm at the Island Alliance Church.
