BRADFORD HYSLOP CHAPMAN, 83 Husband, father, mentor and friend passed away July 10, 2015 after a battle with cancer with family by his side. Brad was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia and is survived by sons Ken and Keith Chapman and grandchildren Elizabeth, Rachel, Mia and Abigail Chapman. Born in Providence Rhode Island to Ruth and Kenneth Chapman, he attended Mount Herman prep school, graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in political science, and did his masters at York University in England in historic preservation. He worked with state and federal governments, including the Department of Health and National Park Service. Brad and his family moved to Crofton Maryland in 1967, and except for three years in Monrovia Liberia working with Aid in Developing Countries helping improve the school system, lived there since. Finishing his career with Computer Sciences Corporation as a trainer and Apple systems administrator, he retired in 1997. In retirement he found a passion for running, his first marathon being the 1992 Marine Corps marathon. He went on to run more than 50 marathons, including the 100th Anniversary Boston, New York, London, Snowdonia and Paris marathons. He competed in numerous other events, half marathons, 10 and 5K races, and the Mount Washington NH run three times. He was a member of the Annapolis Striders where, in addition to competing and mentoring new runners, he helped organize and run logistics for events such as the Annapolis 10 Mile Run. Through the years he enjoyed his family, literature, travel, tennis, rugby, sailing, racing, and running, and was particularly fond of the friends he had made in the Striders and at Wegman’s Super Market in Crofton. He stayed true to his unique way of doing things through to the end, and will be greatly missed. A celebration of Life will be held at The Broadneck Elks Lodge 2608 on August 22 from 4pm to 7pm.
