Adele (Smith) Berger of Annapolis died November 22, 2023 following a long illness. She was surrounded by loving family and friends during the final months of her life and took great comfort in their love, care and support.
Known affectionately as “Pud”, Adele was born in Arnold on December 6, 1928 to Fred and Clarice Smith. She loved reading and writing and telling stories about Arnold winters spent ice skating on Fox’s Pond and summers gardening with her father, along with fishing and crabbing on the Severn River with her brother “Bo”.
Adele attended Annapolis High School, graduating with the class of 1945, where she made many life-long friends. She went on to work in accounting at the Naval Experimental Station, The U.S. Naval Academy and the Naval Hospital. Adele was a member of the Ladies of the Elks and the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Berger, stepdaughters Jane E Berger and Dorothy Bocchini, brother Frederick J Smith and first husband Brooks N. White. She is survived by her daughter Donna B May (Zach) of Oro Valley, AZ, her son David G. White (Allison) of Severna Park, MD, and Anne Marie Grace (Charles) of Harwood, MD. Adele has four grandchildren: Brian Rohrbaugh (Morgan), Elizabeth May, Harper White and Gregory White; and one great-grandchild, Henry Rohrbaugh.
Also, the family would like to thank the very caring and loving healthcare providers at Sunrise of Severna Park Senior Living Center, University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center and Hospice of the Chesapeake.
Funeral and burial services will be private.
