Mahapatra, Dr Srinibas age 63, passed away October 30th, 2012 at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from a heart attack. “Sri,” as he was known by his colleagues and close friends, was born in Puri, Odisha, India, December 30th, 1948. After spending his early years in Calcutta studying medicine, Sri married his wife Chandana, who he would later boast was the most beautiful woman in all of India. Sri and Chandana then emigrated to the United Kingdom, where he completed his residency in Psychiatry at the University of Manchester. Continued travels brought them to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1987. He completed further training at the University of Michigan and would go on to work at the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, where he would eventually become Chief of Inpatient Psychiatry and Director of the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Program. Beloved by his colleagues, he was also an assistant professor at the University of Michigan, becoming a valued teacher and mentor. When not working, Dr Mahapatra delighted in Indian classical music and classical dance. He is survived by his wife, Chandana, his two sons, Rahul and Arun, his mother and four brothers.
