Roberta Smith

Roberta Josselyn Smith Age 79 passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at her home with her family and close friends by her side. She was born May 27, 1939 the daughter of Robert Josselyn and Christine Maude (Diamond) Stormont in Melrose, Massachusetts. After graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in Education, Roberta spent her early career as an elementary school teacher in Ann Arbor. She later earned a Master’s Degree in Gerontology from the U of M and was instrumental in developing the Teaching, Learning Community (TLC) within the Ann Arbor Public Schools, putting both degrees to good use. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Saline Evangelical Home, spending time with friends and family, and taking part in various church activities. During her last few years, she found great joy and comfort as a member of St. James Episcopal Church. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude for the tremendous care, support and love she received from her many friends and caregivers. They took great comfort in knowing that she was in good hands. Roberta is survived by; her daughter, Paula (Robert) Lentz; her son, Peter (Laura) Smith; Paula’s children, Josselyn (Matthew), Elliana, Mackenzie, Daniel and Thomas; Peter’s children, Abby, Jackson and Milly; and two great grandchildren, Brenna and Anya; her brother Jim (Annette) Stormont; and several nieces, nephews and dear friends (you know who you are). She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip H. Smith, and two sisters, Pat and Polly. A memorial service, followed by a celebration luncheon in the parish hall, will be held at 11:00 am on April 22, 2019 at St. James Episcopal Church with The Rev. Carol A. Mader officiating.
