Richard Young, age 51, passed away on January 27, 2012, at his home in Saline, MI, surrounded by loved ones, following a brief illness. Richard was born September 24, 1960, in Lubbock, TX. The family moved to Michigan while he was a child, and he spent most of his life in the Ann Arbor area. Richard worked as an independent home health aide for a number of years before attending Eastern Michigan University nursing program. Richard received his BSN, RN in April of 1996. He worked a number of nursing positions including Glacier Hills sub-acute unit, Hartland Rehab Center as Assistant Director of Nursing, and at Eisenhower Rehab facility as a staff nurse. In 2007, Richard went to work as a case manager with Michigan Case Management. In 2008, Richard completed the requirements and became a Certified Case Manager. Shortly after in 2010, Richard started his own case management company, Superior Horizons, which he ran until his death.
Survivors include his best friend and partner of 28 years, Jim Woodward; his parents, George and Diane Young, Evelyn Young; brothers George (Nancy) Young, Ron Young, and sister Jeanetta (Kevin) Kreg; nieces Jaclyn, Kathleen; nephews Connor, Riley; and his beloved cats, Kyda, and Trixie. Also included are many loving friends who are too numerous to name.
Richard’s creativity was well known and could be seen in his home and surrounding gardens. In addition to the love of family and friends, Richard’s loves included music/karaoke, travel, biking, musical theatre, and trivia. His quick wit, with a smile, will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Richard’s Life is being planned for a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Huron Valley Humane Society or Arbor Hospice.
