Rena Jones, age 92, entered eternal rest on September 21st, 2022. Born on August 22nd, 1930, Rena was born in Battle Creek, MI to Lloyd and Rena Rhan. She spent her youth and early formative years in Chatham, Ontario with her mother, brother, Lloyd Rhan Jr., and grandmother.
In 1946, Rena graduated from the Chatham Collegiate Institute. After immigrating back over to the United States in 1951, she took night classes at Eastern Michigan University and found work within the University of Michigan’s Dietetics Department. During her years of employment, she was promoted as a clerk for the Institute of Social Research before becoming a secretary in the Department of Human Genetics. After over 30 years of service, she retired in 1985.
Rena’s life journey gave her two sons; Robert Taylor III and Richard Taylor. In December 2021, she and her husband happily took in and raised their grandchild, London, after their mother passed away. On August 20th, 1966, she married her loving husband, Rev. Oliver Jones. The two would share an enduring love until his passing in 2010.
A devout woman of faith, she held great love and reverence for her relationship with God. She participated in ongoing Christian leadership training from childhood, traveled all over the country for missionary work, and initially served Metropolitan Memorial Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, MI from the early 1950s until she and her husband became members of Second Baptist Church in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1981.
Rena is survived by her children, Robert (Sandy) Taylor, Richard Taylor; loving grandchild that she raised, London Taylor; nephews, Arthur( Alicia) Rhan Jr, Keith Rhan, Kevin Rhan, Michael Rhan; niece, Valerie (Melvin) Rhan; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rena Mae and Lloyd Sr., her husband, Oliver, her brothers, Lloyd Jr. and Arthur Rhan, and nephew, Bryant Rhan.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Muehlig Funeral Chapel. On Friday September 30, 2022 Mrs. Jones will lie in state for Family Hour at the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor from 10:00 AM until time the time of her Home Going Service at 11:00 AM. She will be laid to rest at United Memorial Gardens. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at the website prepared for the Jones family.
