Michael was born November 15th, 1963, the son of the late Joseph E. Serich and Bertha C. Serich of Swartz Creek, Michigan.
He graduated as the Valedictorian of the Swartz Creek Class of 1982. While in high school he worked as a Summer Intern at General Motors in Flint where he developed code for a new accounting system. After earning a scholarship to Oakland University, he completed college in only three years with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Computer Engineering. He was an honored life member of Oakland University’s Golden Key National Honor Society.
Michael began his career at the Ford Motor Company, where he worked in the CAD/CAM Department in Project Management and Software Development. While working Full-Time at Ford, he completed his MBA at the University of Michigan. He moved on to C-TAD Systems where he worked as Manager of Product Development and Support. Upon C-TAD’s acquisition, Michael transitioned to Centric Software where he periodically traveled to customer sites world wide and worked remotely from his home office in Software Development and Customer Support for the past almost 20 years.
Michael was proud to be able to build his dream home at age 33. He enjoyed working outside on his property “playing in the dirt” making his property beautiful with flowers and shrubs when he was in better health. Michael was a loving husband and father. He fell head over heals in love with his son when he was born and was his son’s daytime caregiver from ages 1-4. He admitted being sad when his son started school. He continued to enjoy spending time with his son as he grew. Michael had a passionate interest in health and healing after his son was diagnosed with Autism at age 4. Even though his own health was in rapid serious decline from Lyme, he was still diligently researching to help his son, to the very last days of his life, as was discovered by his wife while searching for files on his computer’s hard drive. He developed an in depth knowledge of many areas of the health sciences and collected a great deal of research in his personal library collection, in hope of helping his son as well as himself and others. He is greatly missed by his wife and son.
Michael leaves behind his loving wife Cris, of almost 18 years and their son, Drew. Also surviving are his brothers, Joseph Jr. (Connie) Serich of Carlisle, PA and Charles (Liz) Serich of Westland, MI, his mother-in-law, Donna J. Lewis of Clarion, PA and brother-in-law, John E. Lewis II of Clarion, PA and his little pug dog, Minnie.
Michael was proceeded in death by his father-in-law, John E. Lewis of Clarion, PA in May 2009.
