Margaret (Roman) Probst passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on June 18, 2018. Margaret was born October 10, 1928 in Renton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Roman and Mary Wells Roman. Preceded in death by both parents, her husband Robert Louis Probst, son Robert Joseph Probst, four sisters, three brothers, and son-in-law, Peter Lawrence DeFord. Margaret married Robert Louis Probst on December 29, 1951 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Ann Arbor, MI. Margaret attended Plum High School, Renton, PA. Moving to Detroit, MI after high school, Margaret began a career as a bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards, which eventually landed her in Ann Arbor, where she met her husband, Robert. Together Margaret and Robert made their loving home and raised seven children. After being a stay at home mom for many years, a career began at Hillside Terrace Retirement Home, coordinating activities for the residents and progressing to becoming the Director of Marketing for over 30 years, assisting families placing their loved ones in their home away from home. After retiring from Hillside Terrace at age 76, Margaret volunteered countless hours over a 7-year span at Arbor Hospice, helping in any way she was needed. Margaret lived a very meaningful life and enjoyed her family to the fullest. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Margaret is survived by her loving children, Deborah Sue DeFord, Lansing, MI; Laura Marie (Thomas) Lewellen, Highland, MI; Patricia Ann (William) Morgan, Ann Arbor, MI; Mary Charlotte (Gregory) Schwartz, Shelby Twp, MI; Thomas Gregory Probst, Gregory, MI; Anne Frances (Jacob) Haas, Chelsea, MI, 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank Arbor Hospice, all of their dedicated staff, especially Dafna Yakter, and Visiting Angels, who all treated Margaret with dignity and respect throughout her journey. Margaret was laid to rest at St. Thomas Cemetery next to her beloved husband and son.
