With great sadness and heavy hearts, we say farewell to our beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend. Leah Wright was born at home on April 5, 1977, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Leah graduated from Pinckney High School in 1995, marking the beginning of a lifelong commitment to education. She then embarked on her undergraduate path at the University of Michigan, where she not only excelled academically but also cultivated the foundation for inquisitive exploration, a passion for urban environments, and a keen appreciation for diversity.
In 2004, Leah Wright took the next stride in her educational odyssey, selecting the University of Pennsylvania from acceptances at several prestigious universities along the east coast. She completed her master's degree in urban planning, with work related to public transportation, green spaces, and an internationally recognized project in “Hub Cities”. Her time in Philly honed her skills as a savvy city dweller, and furthered her sense of place in the world.
Above all else, Leah was an ardent and dedicated mother. Her son Andrew occupied a uniquely cherished spot in her heart. Her unwavering commitment to her son knew no limits, establishing an extraordinary illustration of maternal devotion. The deep connection they shared stands as a poignant testament to Leah's remarkable qualities as a nurturing and caring mother.
Her baking skills were legendary, and her culinary creations brought joy to all who had the privilege of tasting them. Baking, in particular, was not just a hobby for Leah, but a passion that she wholeheartedly embraced. Over the years, she honed her skills, learning the secrets of breads and bagels and mastering the art of scones, cinnamon rolls, cakes, cupcakes, and most of all Christmas cookies. Leah also found solace in needlepoint and reading, immersing herself in the beauty of the written word and the art of crafting, just like her mother.
Leah's heart was drawn to travel and exploration and she cherished the moments spent in new places with her son, like Florida, New York, Northern Michigan, London, South Korea, Chicago, and Toronto, to name just a few. The laughter, love, and memories they created together were cherished beyond measure.
As we bid our farewells, we remember Leah Wright not only for her extraordinary commitment as a mother, her deeply held beliefs in justice, equity, and diversity, but also for her vivacity, her creativity, and the love she shared with her family and friends. Her legacy lives on through the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
Leah is survived by her son Andrew Jeon; her father Jim Wright; and her brother Joshua Wright.
Leah was preceded in death by her cherished mother Susan Wright and numerous beloved aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Leah’s life will be held Sunday November 5th, 2023 at 1:00 pm. The service will be held at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, 1800 N Dixboro Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
