Kathleen Davis, neé Taylor, died on October 14, 2022, at age 89. Kathleen (Kathy) was pre-deceased by her loving husband Richard (Dick) Davis, who died in May 2018. They shared nearly 63 years of marriage. Kathy was living in Saline, Michigan, after she and Dick relocated in September 2017 from Houston, Texas.
Kathy is survived by her son Tom, Tom's wife Elizabeth, and their children Meg and Max (of Andover, Massachusetts); her daughter Betsy, her husband Garrett Scott, and their daughter Lucy (of Ann Arbor, Michigan); and her brother Byron Taylor (of Visalia, California), as well as Byron’s children and grandchildren.
Kathleen was born in 1933 in Eugene, Oregon, to parents Byron and Margaret Taylor. She attended Oregon State College (now Oregon State University), graduating in 1955 with a degree in home economics. She and Dick lived in ten different states around the country, as his job with Shell Oil Co. moved them from place to place, settling eventually in Houston where they lived for 43 years.
After Dick’s retirement, he and Kathy traveled far and near, with one accomplishment being their visiting every one of the 254 county courthouses in the state of Texas. They spent every summer in Pocatello, Idaho, Dick’s childhood home. Dick and Kathy also spent time each January at Big Bend National Park, which was a favorite location for both of them. In keeping with their off-beat travel choices, they also adventured to Argentina and Iceland.
In the last several years of her life, Kathy’s sharp mind succumbed to dementia. Even so, to the end, she was loving, caring, and gracious to everyone she met. Her family will miss her kindness—as well as the gleam in her eye as she made a sly quip.
The family is enormously grateful for the care and love provided by Arbor Hospice of Ann Arbor and the Brecon Village Memory Support Center in Saline, as well as caregivers from Senior Helpers and Visiting Angels.
Small memorial services are being planned for Andover, Massachusetts, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Big Bend Conservancy or Arbor Hospice.
