I remember June as a cheerful and enthusiastic person.  I believe it was June who encouraged them to move to Ann Arbor so James could continue to play and continue his studies on the french horn at the University of Michigan. I know June was especially interested in the genealogy of the Gerber family.  I remember the time Bill Moser and I played golf with James in Ann Arbor and June and James hosted us in their home.  It was special June and James could continue to live in their home with Caroline living with them and helping take care of them and their place and Ingrid visiting often to offer her support and care.  James told me how very special that was.

What a great loss!  I had the honor of working with June at St. Joe's from 1984 until her retirement in the late 1990's.  She was a great partner to me as the Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Program and to our whole leadership team.  She was smart, efficient and very effective.  She was a wonderful resource.  She was very caring and had a wonderful sense of humor.  She had also worked as a "secretary" for a woman in Ann Arbor who was the first female to have a byline on the front page of the New York Times.  That woman had fallen on hard times medically and June asked me to go with her to make a house call.  I did and recognized that she was likely hypothyroid.  We encouraged her (she had been reclusive for many years) to agree to come to the hospital.  She did and responded extremely well to Thyroid replacement.   The woman subsequently agreed to move to a senior facility in Ann Arbor.  June arranged it all and the woman lived out her life in good health and quite happy.  June literally saved her life!  No surprise as she was always happy to help others and was a great role model.  We stayed in touch after her retirement and spoke with each other twice yearly on our birthdays.
We would catch each other up on what we and our families were doing.  She loved her family.  She is one of the most wonderful people that I have been lucky enough to know and I will definitely miss her.

Grandma June was such an amazing and inspiring presence in my life, especially as a kid growing up. Her care for family and friends was unmatched. Seeing this at a young age really helped me put into perspective how vital it is to treat others with care and the upmost respect. Simply supporting me in my life and interests was all she had to do to make me feel special and cared for. I cherish all the memories I shared with her, from holiday gatherings at her house, to times her and Jim would visit in Souderton, to times they showed up at my sporting events. I love grandma June very much and always will.

Some of my favorite memories of Grandma was when we went to Portage Point, the fun we had, views, meals, walking on the beach, activites etc. Also going to Ohio and visiting aunt Grace, the lunches we had with her/ being altogether. Watching the Tigers/ Phillies together, doing her Christmas cards, and always having her sweet personality, kindness to us/ with us. Both grandparents showed their love all the time. I'll miss you so much Grandma, I love you! 

What I remember most about my grandmother June is her incredible love for her family. She always looked out for us and encouraged us.

When I was a baby, she rocked me in her arms during a big storm. Growing up, she would attend my sports games, birthdays, holidays. When she couldn't travel she always sent a card remembering me. We went on fun vacations together. In college she was there for my music recitals and graduation. Always supportive.

I miss her, and am grateful for the long life she was able to live. I know that she will always still be there, in my heart, supporting me.

Kindness, humor and good cheer are the memories I have, of the Bixler household where I was fortunate to spend some time, in the 1970s with my friend Ingrid.  All these years later, I still think of those days as if it was yesterday, every time I drive by Independence on Packard.   The laughter, love and happiness never go away - it becomes a permanent and cherished part of our lives.  I'm grateful to Mrs. Bixler, and hope it brings some comfort to Ingrid and Caroline, to know of the special place your entire family has in so many hearts, including mine. 

I worked with June on the rehab unit at St. Joe's hospital for many years and maintained a treasured friendship with her until the end of her life. I loved her sunny smile, unflagging cheerfulness, kindness, generosity, competence, sense of humor, and her many other wonderful qualities. It was such an honor to be her friend. My deepest sympathy to her family.

My condolences to June's family and friends. It was with sadness I read her obituary. It also brought back many fond memories. When I was a little girl we would go to visit my Dad's (Wilfred Nussbaum) Aunt Susie and Uncle Earl. Aunt Susie was a sister to my Dad's Mom, Lizzie. I would get to play with June and Doris! Later, we went to Dalton High School together. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
