Joyce Vivian King died peacefully on March 27, 2017, in Ann Arbor, after spending the day with her sisters, Carole Ross and Ellen Couch; her niece, Heide Tvorik; her daughter-in-law, Angela King; and her sons, David King and Father Michael King. Joyce was born on July 10, 1925, in Detroit. She graduated from Romeo High School in Romeo, Michigan. During the eighth grade, she met her future husband, Harold King. After a long courtship which included four years of separation during Harold’s service in the Pacific Theater during WWII, they were married in Romeo. Joyce moved to Ann Arbor to begin married life while Harold finished his degree at U of M. Joyce said that when they married they did not have two nickels to rub together. Their extravagant honeymoon consisted of breakfast at the Cunningham’s Drug Store on Main Street in Ann Arbor. Joyce and Harold remained in Ann Arbor after Harold’s graduation where they raised their two sons. Joyce worked as a model and taught the Wendy Ward course for girls at Montgomery Ward. In her later years, she worked part-time at Lord and Taylor’s. She was a loving wife and mother throughout her life. In 1986, Joyce lost her beloved husband Harold. In 1988 grandson, Luke King was born, followed in 1991 by her grandson, Adam King. Joyce was completely devoted to her grandsons; picking them up from school, fixing them chocolate milk shakes snacks and taking them to the “Hair Spot” barbershop once a month. Mass has already been offered for her repose and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel (403 South 4th Ave., Ann Arbor. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the charity of your choice.
