Joseph Patrick Gallagher III, age 67, of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 11th, 2023. Born to the late Joseph II and Monica Gallagher, Joseph grew up in Northeast Philadelphia, and spent memorable summers at Columbus Country Club with his 5 siblings, Maura, Bob, Bernadette, Chris, and Stephen. He graduated from Archbishop Ryan Catholic High School in Philadelphia then went on to graduate from the University of Pittsburgh in the class of 1977, and Temple University with an MBA in 1980. Married on October 25th, 1980, he was the beloved husband of Francine for 42 years. He was the proud father and mentor to his three children, Raymond (Chelsea), Nicole, and Tara (Scott), and the adored grandfather to Savannah, Whitney, Charles, and Grant. He moved his family to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1997 where he achieved a long career at DTE Energy Trading as a Risk Manager, retiring in 2021. He was happiest spending time with family, especially the Gallagher family traditions including ski trips, summer beach vacations, MSU tailgates, and family dinners at home. As an avid sports fan, weekends often included cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles and MSU Spartans. After retirement Joe and the love of his life, Fran, traveled extensively to many places including multiple trips to Hawaii where he took up surfing. He placed the utmost importance on the value of education. He was best known for his wisdom and profound life advice, to which his children attribute their success in their careers and personal endeavors.
As a devout Catholic, the funeral Mass of Joseph Patrick Gallagher III will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 18th, 2023 at his home parish of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 530 Elizabeth Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
