Jeffrey Stuart Johnson of Ann Arbor, age 49, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday May 27 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Yumeji Johnson, his parents, John (Jerry) Johnson and Elza (Bill) Beck, two brothers, Ken Beck and Bruce Johnson, mother-in-law, Yasue Bessho, sister-in-law, Kanako Bessho, and many special friends who made Jeff’s life memorable.Born on August 19th, 1960 in Salem Oregon, Jeff received his bachelor of science degree from Oregon State University. He studied at Waseda University in Tokyo as an exchange student in 1980. He received his master's degree and PhD. in Education from Temple University in Japan. He taught English at Japanese universities and language schools for 16 years. For the past 9 years, Jeff was a Language Assessment Specialist at the University of Michigan English Language Institute, managing an international language testing program and conducting research related to language testing.Jeff was an avid reader and enjoyed travelling and outdoor activities like fishing and camping. He enjoyed watching sports and was a big fan of the Oregon State Beavers. He also loved animals, especially his dog Sophie. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of Huron Valley (hshv.org).The family will receive friends on Monday, June 7th from 3 pm to 7 pm at Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Ann Arbor. A celebration of his life will be held in Oregon in August.
