Catherine Kris was born on September 2nd, 1964, in Fenton, MI; and passed on to her new heavenly home on August 26th, 2020, at 55 years of age. Catherine graduated from Carmen-Ainsworth High School, and went on to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where she worked as a psychology research assistant and received her Bachelor of General Studies (BGS). Catherine then studied at the University of Michigan School of Social Work, completing multiple clinical social work internships and leaving the program just a few credits shy of receiving her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree.
Catherine became a full-time mom on August 8th, 1993, giving birth to a son, Jonathan Kris. Anyone who talked with Catherine for long was likely quickly struck by how deeply she loved and adored her son. She filled up album after album with rich descriptions and pictures of the joys she had taking Jonathan to various places around Ann Arbor (and elsewhere, after they moved). The love, gentleness, devotion, compassion, and adoration she had for her son were tangible and profound—priceless gifts that will stay with him forever.
But Catherine was not only an amazing mother; she was an incredible friend as well: She had a remarkable knack for forming very intimate, special relationships with people very quickly. She had a kind of warmth about her that was magnetic. As one of her closest friends describes her, “Catherine had a big, beautiful, eye-twinkling smile. Catherine enjoyed good conversation and was an attentive listener. She had a thirst for knowledge and was eager to learn. Catherine had a big heart and desire to give, and she gave all that she could. She had a gift for words and would freely bestow words of kindness, encouragement, love and support. She treated others with respect and showed grace. She was smart, kind, patient, loving, forgiving, and generous. Catherine had many struggles, but it showed her strength, resilience, perseverance and faith. She had a grateful heart and truly appreciated the kindness of others. Catherine loved her church family and friends in Flushing and was always willing to pitch in. She taught Bible class, cleaned, cooked for pot luck, helped out in the office and greeted everyone with her warm smile. She loved God and leaned on him for guidance, peace and comfort.”
Catherine is survived by her son, Jonathan Kris; her mother, Carol Cady; her brother, Dan Cady; and many cousins, aunts, and uncles.
