Carol Clauss Raycraft (pictured with Walter Clauss) passed away on September 15, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love and treasured Torch Lake memories. She is survived by her four children, Tim, Lisa (Steve O'Rielly), Craig (Pam) and Hollie; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Rachel), Billy, Nicklas (Hannah), Sammi (Alec), Jake, Brendan and Fiona; and two great-grandchildren, Cecelia and Everett. Other living relatives include her brother Walter Clauss, her niece Sherry Gehrke, cousin Elle Rita Nicko (Dick) and sister-in-law Helen Marie Raycraft.
Carol went back to Eastern Michigan University in her 50s earning a degree in occupational therapy. She loved her career as an OT and continued working with patients well into her 70s.
Carol was an adventurous traveler globe-trotting to Cuba, Jamaica, India, Ecuador and other locations while volunteering in various nonprofit organizations with her traveling companions and dearest friends.
Carol spent 20 years living on her beloved Torch Lake. She enjoyed all four seasons; kayaking, hiking, swimming and skiing with her family and friends. Her cottage had a revolving door with visitors from far and wide coming to enjoy the lake and Carol's waffles. She also loved dancing with her salsa group and attending jazz concerts in Traverse City.
She was a Michigan State University Master Gardener and was delighted to spend time outdoors in her garden. She had various methods of keeping the deer away from her prized geraniums and volunteered her talents with the city of Alden.
The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Vibrant Life and Gentiva Hospice for the care and compassion they showered on Carol in her final days. Donations in memory of Carol can be made to Gentiva Hospice Foundation at app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/GentivaFoundation/GHS.html
