Sue was born in Ann Arbor on 10-7-35 and slipped the surly bonds of earth on 6-4-22. She described her family as an ordinary working one. Her mother was a house wife and her dad worked at Hoover Ball & Bearing. Sue loved sports. This was long before Title IX. Sue played basketball and softball and went to football with her dad. As she got older she was a referee in these sports. You would not recognize women’s sports then, but it was all we had. Years later, Sue was able to support her love of Michigan Athletics by establishing our scholarships in Softball and Women’s Basketball.
After high school Sue attended one year at the U-M. She decided this was not for her and went to work at Hoover. At the urging of a friend, Claris Brown, she applied for a job at Parke Davis where she spent the rest of her working life. She rose to the rank of executive secretary for the head of research, Dr. Robert Hodges. When he retired she went to the finance department where she dealt with clinical grants. It was at Parke Davis where I met Sue in the golf league. She was an excellent golfer and in the bowling league. We both had houses in AA and thought it would fun to build a home in the country. We found 10 acres outside of Dexter and proceeded. We have lived here for over 40 wonderful years. We did some traveling in this country and had some interesting times. Life for both the chemist and the secretary were good. The chemist will miss her forever.
