Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Barbara J. Murphy, age 88, died on December 8, 2013 following a short illness. Barb was born on March 18, 1925, daughter of Alvin and Myrtle (Leach) Murphy. She was a lifelong resident of Ann Arbor and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1943. She enjoyed bookkeeping jobs with Bendix, Gelman Sciences, and Precision Stamping.
Barb loved her dogs, cats, and cars and enjoyed bowling, golf, boating, fishing, playing pool and cards, and traveling. One of her most enjoyable trips one summer was to England and Rome, Italy. She often reminisced about the friendly people in England and the beautiful landscapes in southern as well as northern England. She walked along Hadrian's Wall between England and Scotland and laughed the entire time commenting how the Romans had built it and she was now walking on it. In Rome, she loved St. Peters Cathedral and the Sistine Chapel. She also enjoyed camping in Michigan's many state parks, loved driving country roads, and loved to sing.
Barb enjoyed people and was quite friendly with everyone. She thought the world of her friends and was devastated when they passed. She was preceded in death by her good friends Kathryn Hutchinson (Ann Arbor), Flora Manfron (Crystal Falls) and Jean Smith (Harbor Springs).
Barb lived a long life and was able to live in her own home with the help of friends, especially Linda Sprankle, Carolyn Miller, and Jackie and Leland Price. She is survived by her cousin, Marilyn Dennis, of Rock, Michigan, and four nieces and nephews. She particularly enjoyed hearing from her nephew, Jimmy, who would share his love of hunting and dogs with her. Cremation has taken place. Donations can be made in Barbara’s memory to the Huron Valley Humane Society. A memorial service is being planned for Summer of 2014.
