Anne Rapp passed away on December 7, 2021, in Ann Arbor, MI. She was born in Norristown, PA to Edgar and Edith Baird, and had one brother, James H., predeceased. She spent her early school years moving around in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania following her father's job hunting during the great depression. The family moved to Collegeville, PA as her father got a job nearby.
Anne entered Ursinus College the year Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and spent the war years there. She met her future husband Robert there and married right after World War II ended. Anne followed her husband to Stuttgart, Germany during the army of occupation. With her husband she moved to Ann Arbor, MI in 1950, where Anne found work in the Survey Research Center at the University of Michigan and spent an exciting year tabulating the results of Jonas Salk's vaccine trials finding them successful. Polio could be prevented! Anne later worked for various volunteer groups including serving on the board of Lurie Terrace and being a member for 25 years of the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop.
An athletic person throughout her life, Anne was known for her generosity, her tenacity of character, her love for Michigan football, and her excellent cooking abilities. She is survived by a niece, Lisa Baird Birney of West Grove, PA, and a nephew, James H. Baird of Stamford, CT, and their children. Her husband Robert passed away in April 2018.
